Fortinet FortiAP Wireless Access Points
Fortinet FortiAP. Security-driven wireless. Managed through FortiGate.
FortiAP wireless access points are purpose-built for environments where network security and wireless performance have to coexist. Every model integrates natively with FortiGate firewalls through FortiOS, putting wireless policy, user authentication, and threat inspection in a single management pane with no separate controller license required. Models range from compact Wi-Fi 6 units for small offices and branches to four-radio Wi-Fi 6E access points built for the densest enterprise floors.

FortiAP-241K
Dual-radio Wi-Fi 6 access point with 2x2 MIMO and a step up in aggregate throughput over the 231K. Well suited for small to mid-size offices where device density is climbing but the budget still needs to make sense.

FortiAP-243K
Tri-radio Wi-Fi 6 access point with a dedicated third radio for continuous background scanning and rogue AP detection. Client-serving radios stay fully allocated to user traffic while the scanning radio watches the airspace around the clock.

FortiAP-431G
Dual-radio Wi-Fi 6 access point with 4x4 MIMO on the 5 GHz band. Delivers higher aggregate throughput for open office floors, conference centers, and medium-density enterprise environments where device count is substantial.

FortiAP-433G
Tri-radio Wi-Fi 6 access point built for high-density enterprise deployments. The third radio handles spectrum scanning and rogue detection, keeping both client-serving radios fully committed to user traffic across busy office floors and large conference rooms.

FortiAP-441K
Tri-band Wi-Fi 6E access point with 6 GHz band support. Opens a wide, uncongested spectrum channel for high-throughput applications and demanding clients. A forward-looking investment for enterprise environments actively deploying Wi-Fi 6E devices.

Fortinet FortiAP FAQ
No. FortiAP access points are managed directly by a FortiGate firewall running FortiOS, or through FortiAP Cloud without any on-site controller appliance. Either option eliminates the need for a separate wireless LAN controller license. Wireless policy, SSID configuration, and security settings all live alongside your firewall rules in a single management interface.
Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) operates on the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Wi-Fi 6E extends that to the 6 GHz band, which is currently uncongested and wide enough to support very high throughput and low latency. The FortiAP-441K and FortiAP-443K are the Wi-Fi 6E models in this lineup. The 6 GHz band is only accessible by client devices that also support Wi-Fi 6E, so the benefit grows as your device fleet upgrades over time.
FortiAP and FortiGate share the same FortiOS operating system. When you connect a FortiAP to a network managed by FortiGate, the access point appears in the FortiGate management interface automatically. Wireless policy, SSID configuration, user authentication, and security profiles all live in one place with no separate management console or controller software required.
The FortiAP-231K covers most small offices up to about 75 concurrent wireless users. If device density is higher or rogue AP detection is a compliance requirement, the FortiAP-243K adds a dedicated scanning radio without a significant price increase. Both are Wi-Fi 6 indoor access points that mount on a standard ceiling tile grid.
Yes. FortiAP Cloud is a licensed cloud management option that lets you configure, monitor, and update FortiAP access points from a browser without a local FortiGate appliance on site. This is useful for small offices, retail locations, and branch sites where deploying a firewall locally is not practical.
FortiAP supports WPA3-Enterprise and WPA3-Personal encryption, 802.1X authentication against RADIUS or FortiAuthenticator servers, rogue AP detection, wireless intrusion prevention, and band steering. Models with a dedicated scanning radio such as the 243K, 433G, and 443K can perform those monitoring tasks continuously without affecting client throughput on the other radios.
