WatchGuard Firebox T Series FAQ
The Firebox T Series is WatchGuard's line of tabletop next-generation firewalls for small and mid-size businesses. Every model runs Fireware OS and supports the full WatchGuard Total Security Suite, which covers intrusion prevention, antivirus, application control, content filtering, DNS filtering, and advanced threat detection. The lineup runs from the T115-W for small branch offices to the T185 for sites with up to 150 users. All models are managed through WatchGuard Cloud.
The -W models (T115-W, T125-W, and T145-W) include a built-in dual-band wireless radio. This lets you use the Firebox as both your network firewall and your wireless access point, reducing hardware costs and keeping management in one place. The standard models (T125, T145, T185) have identical firewall and security capabilities without the built-in radio. If you already have dedicated access points you prefer to keep, the non-wireless models cost less and perform the same on the firewall side.
The hardware functions as a basic firewall and VPN router without a subscription. The security inspection features that define a next-generation firewall, including IPS, antivirus, content filtering, and advanced threat protection, require an active WatchGuard Total Security Suite or Basic Security Suite license. We sell hardware, multi-year bundles, and renewal licenses, and our pre-sales team can help you find the right combination for your budget and renewal timeline.
WatchGuard Cloud is WatchGuard's centralized management, visibility, and reporting platform. All current Firebox T Series models connect to WatchGuard Cloud, so you can manage firewall policies, review traffic reports, and monitor threat events from one web portal without being on-site. WatchGuard's RapidDeploy feature, which handles zero-touch provisioning for remote offices, also runs through WatchGuard Cloud.
Start with user count and the type of inspection you need to run. The T125 works well for offices with under 40 concurrent users running standard web filtering and IPS. The T145 steps up throughput and port count for sites with 40 to 75 users, or any location running deep packet inspection on most traffic. The T185 handles up to 150 users and adds dual SFP fiber WAN ports for fiber ISP connections, making it a solid fit for headquarters. Our engineers can size the right model after a short conversation about your ISP setup and user count.
