WatchGuard Firewall FAQ
The T Series is a desktop appliance built for small offices and branch locations, typically supporting up to 250 users in a compact form factor. The M Series is a rackmount appliance designed for mid-market and enterprise environments that need higher throughput, more port density, and the ability to handle heavier concurrent traffic loads. Both series run the same Fireware OS and support the full WatchGuard security subscription stack, so policy and visibility are consistent across every site.
Total Security Suite includes the complete WatchGuard protection stack: firewall, VPN, SD-WAN, WebBlocker, Gateway AntiVirus, Intrusion Prevention Service, Reputation Enabled Defense, spamBlocker, APT Blocker, DNSWatch, IntelligentAV, Threat Detection and Response, and WatchGuard Cloud management and visibility. It is the top-tier subscription and covers every available security service in a single annual license per appliance.
WatchGuard Cloud is the centralized management platform for WatchGuard Firebox appliances. It lets you configure, monitor, and report on all of your devices from one cloud-hosted dashboard without any on-premises management hardware. For organizations running more than a handful of appliances or managing multiple sites, WatchGuard Cloud is the practical way to keep firewall policy consistent and maintain an auditable change history.
Yes. Both the T Series and M Series support active/passive high availability configurations. In an HA pair, one appliance handles all live traffic while the second stays synchronized and ready to take over automatically if the primary fails. HA is typically deployed at headquarters or at any site where unplanned downtime cannot be tolerated.
Yes. SD-WAN is included in both the Basic Security Suite and Total Security Suite subscriptions at no extra charge. WatchGuard SD-WAN lets you bond multiple WAN connections, including fiber, cable, and LTE, and route traffic by application, quality thresholds, or cost. No separate SD-WAN appliance is required. Configuration and monitoring happen through WatchGuard Cloud alongside the rest of your firewall policy.
Yes. Our WatchGuard One Gold certified engineers offer a pre-ship configuration service that tunes your Firebox to your specific environment before the appliance leaves our facility. We start with an analysis call to understand your network, configure more than 25 components to best-practice settings, and provide seven calendar days of post-deployment support so your team is not on their own at go-live.
