Cisco Meraki Switch FAQ

It comes down to where the switch sits and how much traffic it needs to move. The MS120, MS125, MS130, and MS150 cover small office and branch access. The MS210, MS225, MS250, MS350, MS355, and MS390 handle branch and campus access with stacking and more PoE headroom. The MS410, MS425, and MS450 are fiber aggregation switches for the core. Tell us your site size, port count, and PoE needs and a certified rep will point you to the right series.

Yes. Every Meraki MS switch needs an active license to stay connected to the cloud dashboard and receive firmware updates. Most series run on a single Enterprise license tier, while the MS130, MS150, and MS390 also offer an Advanced tier with extra features. Licenses are sold in 1, 3, 5, 7, and 10 year terms and are tied to the specific switch model.

Enterprise licensing covers the core feature set most networks need, including cloud management, monitoring, firmware updates, and standard switching. Advanced licensing, available on the MS130, MS150, and MS390, adds features like extended security and policy capabilities on top of the Enterprise feature set. Most customers run Enterprise unless a specific advanced feature is required.

Yes, on most of the access and core series. The MS210, MS225, MS250, and MS350 support hardware stacking, the MS355 adds 100G stacking for up to 400Gbps, and the MS390 supports StackPower so power is pooled across a ring of switches. Stacking simplifies management and adds resiliency, since the stack keeps running if one member loses power.

Most of the MS120 through MS390 series offer PoE+ or UPoE configurations, with PoE budgets ranging up to 740W per switch depending on the model and port count. If you are powering a dense mix of access points, cameras, and phones, our engineers can calculate the PoE budget you need before you order so you do not undersize the switch.

Yes. Our certified engineers can pre-configure your Meraki switches before they ship, or manage the switches you already have through our FireGuard Managed Services. That includes firmware management, VLAN and stacking configuration, and ongoing monitoring through the Meraki dashboard.

Yes. Tell us the switches and license terms you need and we will put together one quote that covers hardware, licensing, and any configuration or support services you want bundled in. POs, tax exempt purchases, and Net 30 terms are welcomed for corporate, education, and government buyers.

In-stock Meraki switches ship same day on orders placed before 3pm EST. Hardware warranty coverage varies by model and is separate from the license term, so a switch can be in warranty even if its license needs renewing, or vice versa. Our team can confirm warranty status on any model before you buy.
