The physical appliances include built-in storage and ship as rack-mounted or desktop units that operate independently. The Vx models are virtual machine images you deploy on VMware ESXi or Microsoft Hyper-V. Both run the same archiving engine and carry identical feature sets. The Vx series is a good fit if you already have underutilized server capacity or prefer to avoid adding more physical hardware to your environment.

The primary sizing factor is the number of active mailboxes you need to archive. Entry models (150 and 350) handle up to roughly 3,000 mailboxes. Mid-range models (450 and 650) scale to 25,000. Enterprise models (850 through 1050) are built for 50,000 mailboxes and above.
