Deciding Between the M4800 and M5800?
The M4800 provides 49.6 Gbps firewall throughput and 5,000 BOVPN tunnels, while the M5800 steps up to 87
Gbps, 11.3 Gbps UTM throughput, unlimited VPN tunnels, and 30,800,000 concurrent connections. Both share the
same expansion module options and dual hot-swap power supply design. Compare both to match the right model
to your throughput and VPN requirements.
The M4800 is designed for large enterprises that deploy the firewall as a central data
center hub in a hub-and-spoke topology. With 5,000 Branch Office VPN tunnels, two expansion module
slots, and 49.6 Gbps firewall throughput, it serves as the security backbone for organizations with
extensive distributed networks.
The M4800 has two open expansion module slots. Each slot accepts one of four module
types: 4x10G fiber, 8x1G copper, 8x1G fiber, or 2x40G fiber. You can mix module types across the two
slots to create a port configuration that matches your specific connectivity requirements.
Yes. The M4800 ships with dual 300W hot-swap power supplies as standard equipment. Both
power supplies are active simultaneously, and either can be removed and replaced while the appliance
continues to operate, which is critical for data center environments where downtime is unacceptable.
The M4800 supports 5,000 Branch Office VPN tunnels and 10,000 Mobile VPN sessions. This
capacity makes it appropriate for large enterprises with dozens or hundreds of remote sites connecting
back to a central hub location.
The M5800 delivers significantly more throughput than the M4800: 87 Gbps versus 49.6
Gbps firewall throughput, 11.3 Gbps versus 5.2 Gbps UTM throughput, and 30,800,000 versus 15,000,000
concurrent connections. The M5800 also supports unlimited Branch Office and Mobile VPN tunnels compared
to 5,000 and 10,000 on the M4800, and its base spec includes 4x10G SFP+ ports alongside 8x1G.
