The 8x8 MU-MIMO 5 GHz radio and 5 GbE uplink give it significantly more headroom than the 641 or 621 in demanding deployments.

The SonicWave 681 requires 802.3bt PoE++ (also called PoE++ or 4PPoE), which delivers up to 60W over the Ethernet cable. The AP has a maximum power draw of 34W. This is a higher power requirement than the 621 and 641, which use the more common 802.3at PoE+ standard, so you will need a switch or injector that supports 802.3bt PoE++ to power the 681. Multi-Gigabit 802.3bt PoE++ injectors are available with select SKUs.

The SonicWave 681 can be managed through SonicWall Wireless Network Manager (WNM), a cloud platform that handles provisioning, configuration, analytics, RF spectrum monitoring, and Zero-Touch Deployment for all SonicWave APs in your environment. It can also be managed directly through a SonicWall firewall running SonicOS 7.1.1 or higher, which adds firewall-enforced security policies to all wireless traffic.
