FortiADC VM01 is the entry point into Fortinet's virtual application delivery controller lineup, licensed
for a single vCPU core. It's built for lightweight load-balancing and SSL offload for a small number of
applications, lab and proof-of-concept deployments, and dev/test environments in private or public cloud.
Deploy it on VMware ESXi, Hyper-V, KVM, Xen, Nutanix, or Proxmox, or launch it directly from the AWS, Azure,
Google Cloud, Oracle Cloud, IBM Cloud, or Alibaba Cloud marketplace.

Not Sure Which FortiADC VM Fits Your Workload?
The FortiADC VM lineup scales licensed vCPUs, VDOM capacity, and L4 throughput from single-core dev/test
instances up to multi-core production load balancers. Compare every FortiADC VM edition side by side to
find the right fit for your virtual or cloud environment.
FortiADC VM01 is licensed for up to 1 vCPU core. Fortinet doesn't publish a fixed RAM
cap for FortiADC-VM — memory support is unlimited, so you size RAM to your hypervisor and expected
load-balancing workload; a single-vCPU instance is typically paired with a modest memory allocation
for lab, dev/test, or single-application use.
VMware ESX/ESXi, Citrix XenServer, open-source Xen, Microsoft Hyper-V, KVM, Nutanix,
and Proxmox on-premises, plus direct marketplace deployment on AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud,
Oracle Cloud, IBM Cloud, and Alibaba Cloud.
VM02 doubles licensed vCPUs to 2 and doubles L4 throughput to 2 Gbps, while VDOM
capacity stays at 10 for both tiers. VM02 is the better fit once a single vCPU can't keep up with your
load-balancing throughput demands.
FortiADC-VM01 (SKU FAD-VM01) is licensed per vCPU tier. It's available as an annual
subscription with a Standard or Advanced feature bundle (both include 24x7 FortiCare support), and
also through FortiFlex or pay-as-you-go terms on supported cloud marketplaces.
Yes — FortiADC-VM runs the same software as physical FortiADC appliances, so L4-L7
load balancing, SSL offload, GSLB, and Web Application Firewall capabilities are available. The vCPU
tier governs throughput and capacity, not core feature availability, though specific security services
depend on your subscribed license bundle.
